Preface of the presenter's association
Following a succesful anniversary edition within the proceedings of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, theatre festival FAVORITEN 2012 again presents a selection of remarkable stagings from the independent dance and theatre scenes from throughout North Rhine-Westphalia in Dortmund.
The competition programme refers to tendencies in current productions wich are marked by the now common dissolution of boundaries between the arts, the abandonment of traditional venues as well as the examination of pressing social matters through theatrical means.
Furthermore, Aenne Quiñones, in her second tenure as the festival's artistic director, and Heike Albrecht in her function as programme director have curated a number of commissioned works which focus on Dortmund as the festival's city, aiming for exchange and cultural participation. Here, internationally manned ensembles and nationally linked coproduction networks correspond with the nomadic reality of the artists' lives as well as the migrational history pertaining to a great part of North Rhine-Westphalia's populace.
